Special Families
Living with special needs...

National Portage Association

Portage is a home based education service for pre-school children which is available from birth or when additional needs first become apparent. The portage workers visit the child in the home environment to help with the overall development of your child through a play programme tailored to the needs of your child. Visits can be weekly or fortnightly and each time an activity is left for you to work on with your child to promote a particular area of need. Portage workers concentrate very much on what your child can do and skills are built onto this.

Portage is one of the most common forms of therapy for pre-school special needs children. If you think your child would benefit from the Portage service then you can contact your local branch, see www.portage.org.uk/map.html.
