Using the Special Families Website
Features
Browsing
Ok, so now you know what its all about, how on earth do you use this stuff? Using the Special Families site, like most web sites, can be divided into 2 tasks, firstly, browsing the site and searching for information, and secondly interacting with the website. Near the top of the page you should see a row of ‘tabs’ starting with the ‘Home’ tab. These tabs are your main tool for finding the different information sections in the Special Families web site. Clicking on a tab navigates to the appropriate section, where you will be able to continue browing for further related information. When you get to a topic, read the information it provides for you. Many topics with large amounts of information are divided into pages which you can navigate through one at the time using the tool at the bottom:
Also, scattered throughout the pages of text there are links to other pages and web resources which are highlighted to look like this. Clicking or selecting a link will take you to the appropriate destination page to find out more (your web browser should provide a facility to ‘go back’ if you accidentally click the wrong link). On the left of the page there is a column containing further useful links, for example to go the Special Families Blog or to a page allowing you to contact us.
Search
If that all seems a bit longwinded and especiallly if you are looking for a specific thing a good way to find it is to search for it. Near the top right of each page there is a search box.Click on the box, type in a word and click the Go button or press Return to run a search against the entire website. You will be presented with a list of the pages which contain the word you searched for. Note that Special Families does not understand the complexities of the English language and can only find a word if you type in exactly the same characters it is expecting. For example, if you type trike but an article contains tricycle then it won’t be found. You can try using different variants of a word if you don’t find what you require the first time you search.
